Quick and Easy Steak Fingers

Picture this: a bustling kitchen filled with laughter and the mouthwatering aroma of my Momma’s famous steak fingers. They’re a beloved treat in our household, especially adored by the kiddos. The best part, these delicious steak fingers are quick and easy to prepare. They are great for a quick meal. Get ready to recreate a family favorite that will become a hit with your crew!

You may think that steak fingers seem like a complicated dish, but I promise you these are quick and easy, and they will give your family a quick meal for those business evenings and become a new family favorite.

I like to serve these delicious steak fingers with mashed potatoes and gravy—it’s a guilty pleasure. You can even serve them with a side of country gravy for a great appetizer. These steak fingers are inexpensive to make, quick, and easy to fry up.

I typically make the steak fingers and gravy in the same cast-iron skillet. I cook just about everything in it, and it’s the same skillet my Momma used many years ago.

Quick and Easy Steak Fingers

These quick and easy steak fingers will become your family’s new favorite meal. Once you find out how quick they are to prepare it will become your favorite too.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 cubed steaks (cut into stripes, about an inch wide), approximately 2 pounds. These tender cuts of meat can be found at most local supermarkets.
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 cups Betty Crocker Bisquick (Amazon). If you don’t want to use or don’t have Bisquick, you can use self-rising flour. This is the base of the breading. If you choose to use plain flour, you will need to add 1 teaspoon of baking powder to make the breading light and crunchy.
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • Add salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • Crisco (found at Kroger or any grocery store) is great for cooking. You can use cooking oil for frying, but I promise the Crisco will make it taste much better.
  • Optional: Add cajun pepper for a little kick
  • Optional: Sliced onions into rings and cook with steak fingers.
  • Optional: Serve with White Country Gravy

Instructions

    1. Collect all necessary ingredients.
    2. Using thawed cubed steak, cut into 1-inch—1 1/2-inch wide and approximately 3 – 4 long strips. I use kitchen scissors to cut my strips. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. You could also use onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, or any of your favorite seasonings.
    3. Mix Betty Crocker Bisquick (Amazon) or flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper together in a medium size bowl.
    4. in a separate bowl, beat two eggs and milk together.
    5. In a large skillet, put a heaping of Crisco. When melted, it makes about 1/4 – 1/2 inches in the pan. Bring lard to about 350 degrees. You can use a candy thermometer, or for a quick test if you drop a pinch of flour in the hot oil and it starts to bubble, the oil is ready.
    6. Once the Crisco is ready, dip strips into Bisquick (or flour mixture), shake off excess, then dunk them into the egg and milk mixture. Shake off excess, then dip back into Bisquick (or flour mixture). Shake off excess. Note: any flour that falls into the grease will burn. Gently place the strips into the hot grease (Crisco) and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. I like to cut an onion into ringlets and drop it into grease with the strips. Use tongs to remove the grease and move to a paper towel-lined plate.
    7. Repeat until all strips are cooked.

Notes

  • Serve as an appetizer or meal with a side of white country gravy
  • For a deeper flavor, try using garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
