Rating: 5 out of 5.

No matter how elaborate the trifle may look, it is super easy to make. Making a strawberry trifle has to be one of the easiest ways to turn simple ingredients into a fancy display of layered sweetness. They require few ingredients and allow for different variations if you like adding your own twists to tried-and-true recipes.

This trifle recipe uses strawberries. However, you can make it your own by using other berries, kiwi, bananas etc. For this recipe, it’s best to use fresh Strawberries, but if they are not available, you can use frozen whole strawberries.

In my opinion, there should be a minimum of two and a maximum of three layers. One layer is a strawberry shortcake. 🙂 More than three layers get too full for the trifle dish. I like the two complete layers with strawberries and whipped cream to top it off.

  • 1 (5.1 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 (9 inch) angel food cake, cut in cubes
  • 1 (16 oz) package frozen strawberries, thawed
  • 1 (12 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  1. Place pudding mix into a bowl. Add cold milk and whisk together for 2 minutes. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
  2. Layer ½ of the cake cubes in a trifle bowl or other glass serving dish. Layer ½ of the pudding, ½ of the strawberries or other fruits, and ½ of the whipped topping over the top. Repeat all layers once more. You will want to layer these ingredients like building a lasagna.
  3. Cover trifle and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

Trifles are versatile and easy to make.

  • Make a trifle using strawberries and blueberries with homemade whipped cream to take to a Fourth or July cookout.
  • Make a trifle using strawberries, vanilla pudding, strawberry cake, and whipped cream for a strawberry delight.
  • Make a trifle using strawberries, blackberries and kiwi with angel food cake, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream for a lite dessert at a summer gathering.

A strawberry or mixed fruit trifle is that dessert that is easy to make, hard to mess up, and will impress. It’s a great dessert for any gathering. Especially gatherings in the summer, because it’s a light dessert that won’t set heavy on your belly. :).

Let me hear from you about what variations you used and share your pictures.
