Easy Strawberry Trifle with Angel Food Cake
Easy Strawberry Trifle with Angel Food Cake
If you are like me, you have probably thought about what other desserts you can make with a delicious Angel Food Cake. This Easy Strawberry Trifle with Angel Food Cake is light, airy, and delicious. It’s a great dessert for summer days when you want something sweet but not heavy. Change up the fruit, and it’s also an ideal dessert for holidays like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day,

No matter how elaborate the trifle may look, it is super easy to make. Making a strawberry trifle has to be one of the easiest ways to turn simple ingredients into a fancy display of layered sweetness. They require few ingredients and allow for different variations if you like adding your own twists to tried-and-true recipes.
You Will Need
- Strawberries, mixed berries, or your choice of fruits.
- Angel Food Cake – Store-bought angel food keeps this recipe easy, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you can make homemade Angel Food Cake.
- 1 Box of Vanilla instant pudding
- Whipping cream: Store-bought whipped cream also works like a charm here; it takes much less time to prep. Making whipped cream at home makes it so much better.
- Trifle Bowl I like this one because of its size, and it has a lid.
What Cake Is Trifle Made With?
Many may argue about what type of cake to use for a trifle. Results are in, trifles can be made with Angel Food Cake, Sponge Cake, or even Pound Cake. For this recipe, it is partnered with the Angel Food Cake. Angel food cake uses egg whites to keep the cake light and airy which works really well with the delicate strawberries in this recipe.
Traditional sponge cakes use egg yolks, and some recipes also use butter. Both of those ingredients make the cake heavier. A trifle made with pound cake will be even denser than a sponge cake version. So, for a light and airy dessert, use Angel Food Cake.
What Type of Fruit?
This trifle recipe uses strawberries. However, you can make it your own by using other berries, kiwi, bananas etc. For this recipe, it’s best to use fresh Strawberries, but if they are not available, you can use frozen whole strawberries.
How Many Layers?
In my opinion, there should be a minimum of two and a maximum of three layers. One layer is a strawberry shortcake. 🙂 More than three layers get too full for the trifle dish. I like the two complete layers with strawberries and whipped cream to top it off.
If You Don’t Have a Trifle Bowl
No worries, you can use any glass bowl. But the trifle bowl gives this dessert that elegant appeal. You can also take a glass pedestal cake plate, turn the stand upside down, and place the lid upside down on the pedestal’s stem of the cake plate. Just like this Libby pedestal cake plate/chip and dip bowl/punch bowl/trifle bowl.

Strawberry Cake?
You can find different variations of a strawberry “fruit” trifle, but one that I recommend is using strawberry cake in place of the angel food cake. Using strawberry cake will make this recipe a little bit heavier than the angel food cake, but it is still very delicious. Visit my recipe for strawberry glazed cake. If you are using strawberry cake in your recipe, omit the glaze.
A strawberry or mixed fruit trifle is that dessert that is easy to make, hard to mess up, and will impress. It’s a great dessert for any gathering. Especially gatherings in the summer, because it’s a light dessert that won’t set heavy on your belly. :).
Let me hear from you about what variations you used and share your pictures.
